The position is assigned in the Office of the Director General (PAOD) within the Pacific Department. PARD is responsible for maintaining client relations, delivering ADB assistance to countries in the Pacific region, and coordinating with development partners. PAOD provides overall support to the PARD management in terms of programming, portfolio management, results monitoring, budget, human resources and other administrative matters, and implementation of ADB’s long-term strategic framework to deliver projects that create economic and development impact in the region.

Job Purpose
The Economics and Statistics Analyst provides technical and coordination support in the maintenance of the statistical database system (SDBS) He/she prepares statistical publications and reports; to support project teams in the assessment of economic viability of projects under processing; to assist in the conduct of data analysis and economic research; and to support the administration of technical assistance and statistical capacity building projects in the developing member countries. The Economics and Statistics Analyst reports to Principal Economist.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and updates the SDBS database and preserves its reliability by employing data gathered from official correspondence from statistical contracts in the DMCs. Statistical publications, electronic databases from other international organizations and other sources.
- Generates and/or constructs statistical tables and documents, as well as edits and proofreads the documents, to support the timely completion and accurate preparation of statistical publications/reports.
- Analyzes project data to prepare the economic analysis of selected projects under processing, quantify economic benefits and formulate conclusions on economic viability;
- Contributes to data gathering and consolidation, deriving estimates for other ADB documents and publications, reviewing reports and other papers to verify the accuracy, consistency, relevance and presentation of statistical information;
- Compiles and assimilates data from different sources into an analysis-ready format to support the efficient conduct of statistical research.
- Performs econometric/statistical analysis using various methods and statistical software.
- Assists supervisor and Associate Economics Officer in the administration of technical assistance (statistical capacity building projects) through formulation of terms of reference of consultants, and facilitating advertisement and recruitment of consultants.
- Liaises with country desk officers, economists, consultants and other relevant stakeholders within and outside ADB, collect updated economic data to reflect into country fact sheets, annual meeting briefing papers and other materials for management use.
- Performs other tasks as assigned and reflected in the incumbent’s workplan.
Qualifications
Relevant Experience & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, preferably in economics, business administration, finance or accounting.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in economics and public policy formulation, project processing and administration, or country programming, preferably with an international organization or national government.
- Experience working with government organizations, fiscal and economic management agencies, and multilateral development institutions would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with Pacific countries and institutions.

General Considerations
The selected candidate, if new to ADB, is appointed for an initial term of 3 years.
