The report covers the 49 regional members of ADB. It discusses trends in development progress and the challenges to achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth across Asia and the Pacific. This 54th edition of Key Indicators examines how the increased cost-of-living crisis combined with the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are pushing millions of people in Asia and the Pacific deeper into poverty. The report identifies the need for more galvanized efforts to ensure poor people are able to cope with inflationary pressures and ongoing economic uncertainties.

This chapter highlights the polarity effects of inflation and exchange rate changes on participation in global value chains by economies in Asia and the Pacific. Real GVC participation is introduced as an indicator to supplement nominal measures of GVC participation. It measures participation in value chains involving multiple cross-border transaction of inputs used in different stages of production expressed in constant (base year 2010) prices.
