India : State Road Safety Incentive Program
The State Road Safety Incentive Program (SRSIP) will assist the Government of India in introducing and implementing the State Support Programme for Strengthening Road Safety (SSP), focusing on seven selected states in India. SRSIP is the first program dedicated to road safety by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and will support a performance-based grant scheme where the central government disburse grant financing when the participating states achieve target indicators. The target indicators include reduction in road crash fatalities as well as engineering and non-engineering interventions that are proven to be effective in reducing road crashes

Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy | SRSIP is proposed to assist MORTH in introducing and implementing SSP, which is aligned with the government's road safety agenda "Towards Vision Zero 2030". SRSIP is included in ADB's country operation business plan for India, 2021-2023, and is consistent with pillar 3 (inclusive provision of infrastructure networks and services) of ADB's country partnership strategy for India, 2021-2023. SRSIP is also in line with ADB Strategy 2030 operational priorities, namely (i) addressing remaining poverty and reducing inequalities (OP1); (ii) accelerating progress in gender equality (OP2); (iii) making cities more livable (OP4); (iv) promoting rural development and food security (OP5); and (v) strengthening governance and institutional capacity (OP6). | ||||

Environmental Aspects | The program's environmental and social impact will be assessed, and a safeguard systems assessment report will be prepared as necessary, including the Safeguard Policy Statement (2009) policy principles that will be likely applied to the SRSIP. |
