Investor Relations
A leading triple-A borrower, ADB raises funds regularly through bond issues in international and domestic capital markets, reflecting strong credit fundamentals and conservative financial policies.
ADB launched its first theme (water) bond for sustainable development in 2010, in response to a growing demand among its investor base to highlight key initiatives. Since launching the water bond, ADB has expanded its theme bond offerings to include health, gender, and education bonds. The projects funded by theme bonds are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations on quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, and good health.
Projects eligible for ADB Theme Bond for Sustainable Development financing should be in the following areas:
ADB’s projects in the education sector seeks to improve access to, and the quality and relevance of, education and training, and to amplify the returns to students and the workforce.
Investing in gender equality makes economic sense. Globally, it is estimated that $12 trillion could be added to the gross domestic product by 2025 by advancing gender equality.
These bonds support ADB member countries in their COVID-19 pandemic response and in their efforts to achieve universal health coverage.
These bond issues support projects under the Water Financing Program and highlight ADB’s efforts to address Asia’s water sanitation needs.
