ADB has 68 shareholding members including 49 from the Asia and Pacific region.
Board of Governors
ADB's highest policy-making body is the Board of Governors, which comprises one representative from each member nation – 49 from the Asia-Pacific and 19 from outside the region.
Board of Directors
The Governors elect 12 members to form the Board of Directors, which performs its duties full time at the ADB headquarters. The Directors supervise ADB's financial statements, approve its administrative budget, and review and approve all policy documents and all loan, equity, and technical assistance operations.
Management
The President heads a management team comprising a Managing Director General and six Vice-Presidents. The team supervises the work of ADB's operational, administrative, and knowledge departments.
Masatsugu Asakawa
Masatsugu Asakawa is the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Chairperson of ADB’s Board of Directors. He was elected President by ADB’s Board of Governors and assumed office on 17 January 2020.
Woochong Um
Woochong Um is ADB’s Managing Director General. The MDG is responsible for ensuring bank-wide coherence on key initiatives and issues. He provides oversight to the Transformation Office, Office of Safeguards and Department of Communications and Knowledge Management. Together with the Office of the President he also oversees the Office of the Ombudsperson, Office of Professional Ethics and Conduct and Office of the Special Project Facilitator. He oversees various special initiatives which cut across ADB.
